There’s a saying that goes ‘common sense isn’t always common’ and no one knows that better than gym-goers. It won’t be easy, but hopefully if we all band together we can stop these bad practices to make going to the gym a better experience for all of us.
Please make sure that you and your friends exercise proper gym etiquette to prevent any ‘Bro-downs’ or throw downs.
Take One Giant Step Backwards
If you are doing shoulder shrugs, bicep curls or anything in front of the mirror please for the love of god take a step back from the weights. A one yard/meter step should do it, so that people wanting to put their weights back on the rack don’t have to shimmy in front of you.

Wipe it Down, Bruh
One of those common sense things we talked about...if you are leaving the seat shinier than a grocery store apple it’s time to stop. Wipe it down with a towel, paper towel or invest in some performance wear so we are not sitting in your puddles.

Your Selfies Can Wait
We get it, people have to know you are working out, but if the gym is busy no one wants to see you taking selfies while they are waiting to use the machine. Perhaps even leave your phone in the locker and see how it feels. Otherwise, take your selfies in the stretching/aerobics room mirrors, that’s what they are there for...I think.
Some Things Don’t Need to be Done Naked
If it weren’t for the person who likes to shave in front of the mirror naked in the change room, well it wouldn’t really be a gym would it?
Believe it or not, it is okay to wear a towel or *gasp* clothes while in the change room. It’s great you are proud of your body, but change rooms don’t exactly have a great deal of extra space to maneuver around your butt cheeks.
No matter how good you look, it’s best to go with the mindset of ‘no one here wants to see me naked’. Follow that general rule and everyone will stop throwing tomatoes at you.
Stop Walking Away
We’ve all been there, waiting to use some equipment and the guy walks away and starts talking to someone, only to come back once you’ve started and is like “bro I wasn’t done”. Well, you sure looked like you were done the way you haven’t used this for 15 minutes. No one is asking you to hover over your weights/machine like an eagle protecting its eggs, but have some consideration.
Don’t Let Your Friends Line Up
Believe it or not, you can use other machines while waiting. You and friends 1 through 7 don’t need to take up the same machine for 45 minutes. This does happen, usually with young guys, and it is quite annoying.
Hit on People with Caution
As a general rule, women don’t like being hit on at the gym unless the guy is super pretty. I’d say this is the case for about 75 per cent of females. Hit on guys all you want, they will like it, but for girls, unless they give you an obvious opening or talk to you first, it’s probably going to leave you feeling silly.
Generally they feel gross and unattractive when they are dripping in sweat, so regardless of how you feel they look (and yes it can be hot), the juice bar or any other location is a better bet.
Is there anything at the gym that really bothers you?
