On a cold winter day, some men tend to reach for their long johns. But long johns are built for more than just cold weather. Ours work as a base layer under jeans, as gym leggings, or as loungewear on their own. This is because we cut them from microfiber and Pima cotton instead of the stiff waffle-knit thermal fabric most brands use. The difference is almost immediate: they move with you instead of bunching at the knees.
Long Johns in Microfiber vs Traditional Thermal Knit
Traditional long johns use heavyweight waffle-knit cotton. This is warm, but it can be bulky under clothes and also slow to dry. We make ours with two fabrics: a polyester-lycra microfiber blend for stretch and moisture-wicking, and a 95% Peruvian Pima cotton, 5% lycra blend for softness without bulk. Both have 4-way stretch and sit flat under pants. The microfiber version works as a performance base layer for outdoor work or cold-weather workouts. The Pima is softer than standard cotton with 35% longer fibers that resist pilling, which makes this item the ultimate comfort.
Long Johns for Men That Actually Stay in Place
Every pair has ribbed ankle cuffs to prevent riding up. This is a detail borrowed from athletic compression wear. The contour pouch is the same anatomical cut we use across our boxer briefs and regular briefs. The contour pouch gives real support instead of the flat-front pattern that most thermal underwear copy from women’s base layers. The elastic waistband is 50mm of woven elastic, not printed. This means that it won’t curl or lose grip after washing.

These aren’t your grandfather’s long johns! The slim-fit silhouette means they layer under jeans, chinos, or work pants without adding bulk.
