Among the obvious features such as syncing to your phone or sending/receiving texts or alerts right to your arm, a lot can be said for its application to those in the world of fitness. In fact, you may go as far to say that health/fitness enthusiasts are now the target audience of the global mega-company.

Here are five ways the Apple Watch is perfect for the athletically inclined:

  1. The Built-In GPS

The Apple Watch Series 2 can record your speed, distance and pace incredibly accurately, for all types of exercise such as running, cycling or rowing. There is no wait time to connect to a signal, just strap on your watch and go.

Those route maps you see people post on social media? Well as soon as you are done you can check your iPhone to see your route, including when you were at your fastest. From there you can share onto Facebook , Instagram or whatever the kids are using these days (BetaMax?).

  1. Constant Heart Rate Sensor

Starting to think that this is actually a treadmill…the Apple Watch 2 not only tracks your speed and distance but it also tracks your heart rate throughout your workout, almost like if you were to continuously hold your hands on the sensors of a treadmill (holding sensors at speeds higher than four is a hazard, you know). This of course helps count calories accurately.

  1. Factory Workout/Activity Apps

Swimming, biking, running and elliptical apps are all at your disposal and pre-programmed into the Apple Watch Series 2. You can start and stop them at any time to pause your workout, set goals and stick to them.

In addition, your workouts count to your daily Exercise rings so you can see how active you have been overall. Of course, you can still use any of your favourite third-party fitness apps, in case there isn’t an official Apple version for your preferred activity.

  1. Works with Apple AirPods

The new wireless headphones can connect automatically to your Apple Watch. This pairs with your iPhone too, so you don’t have to bring your phone with you while you exercise. All of a sudden, your network of devices works well together just as well as they do separately.

  1. It’s Really Water Resistant

The coolest feature is the water-resistant technology. If you’ve been into fitness for a long time, you’ve probably had a phone or other device get destroyed from your salty sweat beads. It operates by letting water in and forcing it out with sound vibrations. According to Apple, this is their ‘reinvention’. Up to 50 metres in depth means you can wear it in the pool or in the ocean without worry.
